With vSphere 5.5 which was just announced at VMworld, you can have virtual disks with up to 62TB (see http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere/VMware-vSphere-Platform-Whats-New.pdf) However, this requires your local disk controller to support large LUNs, ESXi to support your disk controller and it may also require the vSphere Web Client for management (only available with vCenter Server). Anyway, maybe worth waiting!?
